INSPIRELab at IIT Madras

The INSPIRE Lab at IIT Madras focuses on development of safe and affordable robotic systems for surgical and image-guided interventions and their clinical translation.

The lab is led by Dr. Nirav Patel, Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Design, and is an interdisciplinary space for mechanical, biomedical, computer science, and electrical engineering research.

Dr. Nirav Patel previously held a postdoctoral position at Johns Hopkins University (LCSR).

Academic Training

Ph.D. in Robotics Engineering (WPI, 2017), M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (Nirma University, 2007), and B.E. in Computer Engineering (2005).

Research Scope

Medical robotics, image-guided interventions, robot-assisted retinal surgeries, path planning, and machine learning.
